// hello //
Like a whole lot of y'all this week, we're going coastal... and to the mountains. So while you're traversing the state, or looking for an excuse to take a quick getaway, hit up these folk, film and photo events.
If you haven't subscribed already, please do.
I have to say, making it my job to find top shelf creativity coming from and through our region feels like one of the best decisions I've ever made. I hope these make you as excited and optimistic as I am. Let me know what you think, and who else deserves a spotlight.
Cheers, Jennifer

WATER | Beautiful, Powerful, Shimmering
For the folk art fans, American Folk Art & Framing presents a group show with a diverse group of artists whose work addresses watery themes, including Greenville woodcut artist, Kent Ambler. Pictured is a Michael Banks acrylic on wood. Through June 24. Asheville.
Return to Nature | Coastal Discovery Museum
This exhibition features dynamic bodies of work that examine the evolution of Gullah Geechee art, while chronicling history in relation to nature.
Featured artists include Jonathan Green, Sam Doyle, Amiri Farris, Diane Britton Dunham, Arianne King Comer, James Denmark, and Hank D. Herring and one of my personal favorites, Natalie Daise. Through June 28. Hilton Head.
TRANSFORMATION | Photography Exhibit
Do not miss a chance to see a screening of an Alex Prager film. The LA-based artist's still images are theatrical, and her moving images are full of screenshot-able moments. She makes you sit with the reality that even in a crowd, individuals are often isolated. Any moments of connection cannot occur without tension. Imagine the wit and suspense of a rom-com, without the rom. Never the rom.
All the stellar photographers in the show are curated by Dr. Lawrence Wheeler, Dr. Carlos Garcia-Velez, and Allen G. Thomas Jr. Through Aug. 21. Blowing Rock, NC.

▶︎ The Mature Candidates | Big Myke Da Mayah
